AGFA And Shout! Factory Team Up To Bring 50 Cult Classics Back To Theaters

Well hot damn, this is like Christmas morning! The fine folks at the American Genre Film Archive and Shout! Factory have teamed up to bring 50, count ‘em 50, cult classics back to the big screen this year.

This list has something for everyone. We’ve got the post-apocalyptic stylings of A Boy and his Dog; angry, nasty critters with Willard and Piranha; teen slasher goodness with the Slumber Party Massacre films; the recent mind-bending art house fare that is Leos Carax’s Holy Motor; the music documentary Hype!; and so much more. Come on, Chopping Mall, Quadrophenia, Rock ‘n Roll High School, Black Christmas, all on the big screen? 

We got class, we got exploitation; there’s Johns Ford and Cassavetes. Oh god, there’s even Shakespeare. There’s something for everyone here.

AGFA and Shout! Factory teaming up sounds like a good idea no matter what, but looking at this collection of movies, it’s difficult not to drool all over my keyboard. These titles are apparently ready and available for theatrical booking right away, so hopefully we’ll start to see some of them roll out before long. (In Seattle, I imagine a few might pop up at places like the Grand Illusion or the NW Film Forum. Just a guess. Maybe a bit of a cinephile prayer.)
