'Triple Frontier' Trailer: Handsome Men Rob Drug Dealers

Handsome white men can get away with damn near anything. From the look of the new trailer for J.C. Chandor’s Triple Frontier, the film plans to push this thesis to the extreme as a bunch of good looking dudes—Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, and Garrett Heduld—basically invade a foreign country to rob a drug cartel. What can possibly go wrong?

To answer the question posed above, it appears everything, everything can go wrong, and does, in Triple Frontier. There are complications with the mission, people telling lies, heavily armed baddies, a helicopter crash, and more obstacles to overcome. 

Here the synopsis:

A group of former Special Forces operatives (Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal) reunite to plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. For the first time in their prestigious careers these unsung heroes undertake this dangerous mission for self instead of country.  But when events take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control, their skills, their loyalties and their morals are pushed to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival. Directed by Academy Award nominee J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, All Is Lost, A Most Violent Year) and co-written by Chandor and Academy Award winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty).

Triple Frontier has been kicking around since at least 2010. Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp both circled the project early on, which would have been a much different movie. Channing Tatum, Tom Hardy, Mahershala Ali, Casey Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg were also all linked to the film at one point or another. 

Kathryn Bigelow was originally attached to direct. I would have loved to see Bigelow’s version, but I absolutely adore Chandor’s last film, A Most Violent Year, which is a damn masterpiece, so I’m excited for his first directorial effort since 2014.

Netflix will release Triple Frontier in a select few theaters on March 6 and it hits their streaming service a week later on March 13.
