The 2019 Oscar Nominations Have Arrived

Now that we’re solidly entrenched in 2019, it’s time to put a bow on the 2018 film year. And with that in mind, the 2019 Academy Award nominations have arrived. Check them out below.

The Oscars are like the Super Bowl, even if my team isn’t there, I usually pay at least a modicum of attention. After all, it’s a big, bright, shiny spectacle and I’m a simple, easily distracted ape. 

Some people love the Academy Awards, others hate them. For the most part, I don’t give them much credence—I well know that what I like doesn’t often line up with what they like, at least until they start giving John Wick movies serious consideration. From my perspective, it’s an academic curiosity, little more. (I honestly had to look up what won Best Picture last year, I forgot.)

Now it’s time to cue the outrage over various nominations and snubs, dunderheaded nods and vicious slights. 

As usual, there are some surprising nominations and some less surprising nominations. A few will spark great debate. I love some choices and think others are dumb as hell. That’s pretty much how this goes, though I don’t find myself getting too worked up about any of them, I stopped putting much stock in the Academy years ago.

You can watch the 91st Academy Awards broadcast on ABC on Sunday, February 24 at 8pm EST. That’s 5pm for those of us on the West Coast if you don’t want to do the math.
