Watch The Trailer For Netflix's Apocalyptic Thriller 'Bird Box'

I’m not entirely sure what to make of this Bird Box trailer. It doesn’t offer a lot of information, which is good considering I’d never heard of this film until yesterday. What it does have is a crazy good cast, a whole lot of juice in the creative team, and a heady, apocalyptic sci-fi premise. So I’m in. Check it out below.

This Bird Box trailer leaves a lot of questions, which is what it’s designed to do, get people to watch the damn movie to find the answers. But it does offer a ton of intrigue. There’s tension, a mysterious end of the world, some kind of monsters that make you see your deepest fear when you look at it—I can’t help but think of that one creature from Harry Potter. It definitely has A Quiet Place kind of feel as well—though the book it’s based on came first.

The cast is also stacked beyond belief. Bird Box stars Sandra Bullock, John Malkovich, Trevante Rhodes, Lil Rel Howery, Sarah Paulson, Jacki Weaver, BD Wong, Rosa Salazar, and bunch of others. Added plus, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross handle the music.

Netflix continues to offer a home for filmmakers looking to spread their wings and unleash their artistic visions. And that’s what’s most exciting here. Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, who won an Oscar for In a Better World and helmed the recent miniseries The Night Manager, directs. Eric Heisserer, who wrote the script for Arrival, adapts Josh Malerman’s novel, and this seems like a similar type of esoteric, big idea science fiction, though with a horror vibe thrown in for good measure. In short, all of this sounds like just my kind of movie.

Here’s a synopsis:
When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they'll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.
Bird Box hits Netflix December 21. Happy holidays.
