'Paradox' Trailer: Wilson Yip Teams With Tony Jaa And Sammo Hung For Face Punching Galore

Fans of modern international action cinema are, or sure as hell should be, fans of Hong Kong director Wilson Yip. He helmed the first three Ip Man movies, with another on the way, SPL: Kill Zone, Flash Point, and tons more. (Also Bio-Zombie. I’ll take any chance to mention Bio-Zombie, because no one talks about it enough.) Now he’s returning to the SPL (Sha Po Lang) franchise with the third chapter, Paradox, which just dropped a badass new trailer.

Yip skipped out on SPL: Kill Zone 2, which was one of my favorite movies of 2016 and stands as one of the best action films of the decade. While not overtly connected, the films all occupy a similar dark, gritty underworld.

Tony Jaa tagged in for Donnie Yen between the first and second chapters, and he’s back again, though in a different role. Simon Yam jumped ship after Kill Zone 2, but Louis Koo returns, like Jaa, as a new character. It’s all very mixed up, but who cares, because Paradox looks completely awesome.

Here’s a synopsis:
When his daughter goes missing in Thailand, a Hong Kong cop (Louis Koo) teams with local police (Tony Jaa, Wu Yue) to find her, but instead finds himself embroiled in a web of corruption and violence in this explosive thriller from famed action director Wilson Yip (Ip Man Trilogy, SPL: Kill Zone).
And not only is Wilson Yip returning to the SPL world for Paradox, so is the legendary Sammo Hung, who handled the action choreography for the first film. (Leged is 100% the appropriate word. The man’s resume reads like an action cinema greatest hits album.) And though I haven’t seen the film, the results are reportedly brutal and violent and raw. Music to my ears.

The film also stars Ka Tung Lam (Infernal Affairs), Vithaya Pansringarm (Only God Forgives), Wu Yue (A Better Tomorrow 2018), and Jacky Cai.

Well Go USA plans to release Paradox on Blu-ray and digital platforms on May 8. Check out some box art below.
