'The Debt Collector' Trailer Is Here To Collect What You Owe

It probably comes as no surprise I’m excited about a Scott Adkins movie. In fact, The Debt Collector landed on my most anticipated movies list for 2018. But now we have a trailer, and it’s not only suitably badass to fit in the cinematic martial artist’s resume, it takes him to places he doesn’t usually go. Check it out below.

Scott Adkins has proven, time and again, he’s proficient in kicking people in the face and otherwise pummeling whoever needs pummeling. (Except when cast in mainstream Hollywood fare like Doctor Strange and American Assassin, where he’s almost exclusively underutilized and wasted.) But one thing he doesn’t often have the chance to do is comedy.

At least judging by this trailer for The Debt Collector, that’s about to change. This looks like a riff on ‘80s style mismatched buddy action flicks. Think the likes of 48 Hrs., Lethal Weapon, or even recent films, like The Nice Guys, and you have an idea what I’m getting at. There’s bottle braking, face punching, ball kicking, dry humor. Basically, I’m way into what we see here.

The plot follows: “A classically-trained martial artist (Adkins) goes to work as a debt collector for the mob. The job seems easy enough, until one ‘client’ pulls him into a situation deeper than could ever be expected.”

If Scott Adkins showed up on my doorstep and demanded I pay what I owe, I would figure out a way to scrape that money together in short order. Just saying.

Directed by Jesse V. Johnson, who’s teamed with Adkins a great many times recently, including on Triple Threat, Accident Man, and Savage Dog, The Debt Collector also stars Louis “Brother of Costas” Mandylor, and living legends Tony Todd, Michael Pare, and Robert Rusler. Come guys, you had me at Scott Adkins, no need to go overboard on my account. I mean, I’m certainly glad you did and it makes me feel special.

There’s not word on an official release date for The Debt Collector, but I’m sure this will get a DTV release followed shortly by an appearance on Blu-ray. And hopefully soon.
