Somehow, and I’m not sure how this happened, I never knew
that what my life really lacked was Nicolas Cage, screaming “The Hokey Pokey,”
while smashing a pool table with a sledgehammer. I know, I know, that should
have been obvious from the word go, but it took this Mom and
Dad trailer to make me see the light. But now I have, and it is
glorious.
I can’t put into words how happy this Mom and Dad trailer makes me. It just warms my cold, dead heart.
The film showed at Fantastic Fest and the Toronto
International Film Festival this past fall, and from all reports, it’s a
nightmarish horror banger. It features Nic Cage and Selma Blair as a pair of
bland, white bread suburban parents who, along with the rest of the parents in
town, freak out for some reason and try to brutally murder their kids. All of which
is on full display in this trailer.
The official synopsis says as much, but doesn’t shed any
further light on the situation, though if you need more than Nicolas Cage going
full, manic, bizarro Nicolas Cage and trying to kill children, we have very
different requirements for movies.
A teenage girl and her little brother must survive a wild 24 hours during which a mass hysteria of unknown origins causes parents to turn violently on their own kids.
Mom and Dad marks the solo directorial
debut of Brian Taylor, most known as half of Neveldine/Taylor, the duo behind
Crank and Crank 2: High Voltage, which I
maintain to this day is high level avant garde cinema a few decades ahead of
its time.
Mom and Dad has what I’m sure will be a
limited theatrical run starting January 19, 2018, but fortunately for all of
us, it also hits VOD the same day. Now you know what you’re doing that evening.
