Up for a gory high school zombie Christmas musical? Yeah, me
too. So, you might want to check out the trailer for Scottish director John
McPhail’s Anna and the Apocalypse, because it’s all of those
things.
I’m not entirely certain what to say about this
Anna and the Apocalypse trailer other than than, oh hell
yes. This type of concept so easily goes awry so often, but while I can’t speak
to the finished product ,or whether or not McPhail and company can keep up the
momentum the entire time, this brief glimpse is more than promising enough to
get me into a theater.
Come on, there’s zombie snowmen beheadings, the undead being
mowed down with shopping carts, elaborate dance numbers through swarms of animated
rotting corpses. What else do you want out of a movie?
Here’s what Deadline has to say about Anna and the Apocalypse:
When a zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven, Anna and her high school pals must fight, sing and slash their way to survival. Teaming with her best friend John, Anna and her crew try to save family and faculty alike as they encounter zombified snowmen, a manic bachelor party and teenage hormones. But they soon discover that no one is safe in this new world, and the only people they can truly rely on are each other.
Yeah, still 100% in the bag for this one.
Anna and the Apocalypse stars Ella Hunt,
Mark Benton, Paul Kay, Malcolm Cumming, Sarah Swire, Christopher Leveaux, Ben
Wiggins, and Marli Siu. It hits Fantastic Fest soon then moves to Sitges after
that. XYZ is handling the North American sales, so hopefully they’ll be some
sort of movement on the getting-this-movie-to-the-masses front.
Between Anna and the Apocalypse and the
upcoming Better Watch Out, we may just have a couple of new
holiday horror classics to enjoy.
