'Atomic Blonde' (2017) Movie Review

If Mad Max: Fury Road and Monster weren’t enough to convince you not to mess with Charlize Theron, Atomic Blonde should do the trick. She’ll shoot you, stab you with a stiletto heel, kick the ever-loving crap out of you, use your neck as an anchor while she dives out a window Die Hard style, and pummel your genitals into a wad of pasty goo. (She kicks so many dudes in the groin.) Should the model-turned-Oscar-winner decide all she wants to do from now until the day she retires is make kickass action movies, that might be the best greatest hope for humanity.

'London Has Fallen' Is Getting A Sequel And I May Be The Only One Who's Excited

I hope you’re still thirsty as fuck, I know I am. I’m generally in the minority on this one, but 2016’s London Has Fallen is awesome. Which is extra impressive, given that the predecessor, Olympus Has Fallen, is such a shrug. But London is a mean, nasty, jingoistic, stripped-down ‘80s style actioner. And bless Millennium Films’ little heart, there’s going to be more, as the studio just okayed Angel Has Fallen, which has a director and everything.

San Diego Comic-Con went down this past weekend, and since the focus is all about TV and movies rather than funny books, it arrived with a tidal wave of trailers, posters, and other assorted promotional goodies for upcoming blockbusters and highly anticipated television shows. Here are some of the bigger and better trailer offerings, and just some of the things I’m most excited for. There are more, but these are the ones I like.

'Landline' (2017) Movie Review

Director Gillian Robespierre rvteams with Jenny Slate, star of her debut feature Obvious Child, for her follow up, Landline. Likeable and fun, though less inclined to stick to the ribs, the story follows two mid-1990s sisters, Dana and Ali (Slate and Abby Quinn), who discover their father (John Turturro) is cheating on their mother (Edie Falco).

'Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets' (2017) Movie Review

For as bug-nuts crazy as Luc Besson’s nonsense sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is visually, there's no excuse for it being so fucking boring. And holy hell, is there a scientific term for a total lack of chemistry? Because that's what stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne have. Their on-screen relationship is a distinct kind of anti-charisma that’s like an anchor around the film’s neck.

Triple Threat is all of my favorite things wrapped up in one convenient package. Action, martial arts, gunplay. Oh, and it stars every cinematic badass currently working. The credits include Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Tiger Chen, Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, JeeJa Yanin, Michael Wong, Michael Bisping, and Celina Jade. I hope I didn’t forget anyone, but I may have, the list is long and distinguished. As you may imagine, I’m beyond excited for Triple Threat, and that anticipation just took another huge leap forward with the first trailer. Check it out after the jump.

Guillermo Del Toro's 'The Shape Of Water' Trailer Shows A Dark, Gorgeous Fairy Tale

I know everyone clamors for Guillermo del Toro to make more Hellboy movies, but while they’re fine, I don’t adore them like many. As a counterpoint, I’d much rather have him doing original films, like The Devil’s Backbone, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Crimson Peak. And, at least if this first trailer is to be believed, his latest, The Shape of Water falls into this category. This is as lovely as it is macabre.

'Dunkirk' (2017) Movie Review

If your summer has lacked tension thus far, that’s easily rectified by watching Christopher Nolan’s new World War II film, Dunkirk, which is 106 minutes of unrelenting pressure that leaves the audience emotionally exhausted, pummeled, and bruised in the theater. 'Blade Runner 2049' Trailer: Guess What? This Movie Still Looks Incredible

As much as belong to the camp that Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner doesn’t need a sequel—it’s a goddamned masterpiece—I’ll cop to being all kinds of jazzed for Blade Runner 2049. It looks weird and mysterious and like an extension of the original atmospherically, aesthetically, and tonally. Hell, even the score sounds like an inevitable evolution of what came before. We have to wait until October to actually see it, but this majestic new trailer should keep us occupied for a few minutes.

Apparently the first teaser trailer (or two) for Kickboxer: Retaliation—the sequel to Kickboxer: Vengeance, last year’s Kickboxer reboot—dropped the other day. I knew it was coming, but it still scampered right on by me. I’m getting soft in my old age. Watch it (them) now.

'Outrage Coda' Trailer: Beat Takeshi Returns To Shoot Gangsters...And A Fish

“Beat” Takeshi Kitano’s 2010 Yakuza opus, Outrage, is one of the prolific writer/director/actor’s (and comedian and author and painter so on) greatest feats. A grim gangster tale of honor, respect, loyalty, betrayal, intrigue, and corruption, it’s also darkly witty and bleakly comic. All of which plays through in the new trailer for the latest follow up, Outrage Coda. Check it out below.

'Wish Upon' (2017) Movie Review

Young Clare Shannon (Joey King) is having a rough go. As a child, she watched her mom hang herself. After that tragedy, her dad (Ryan Phillippe) totally abandoned his sweet saxophone skills in favor of his career as a dumpster diver, which is, of course, a constant source of embarrassment to Clare. High school sucks and is full of mean girls, her dream boy doesn’t know she exists, and she only has two friends, June (Shannon Purser) and Meredith (Sydney Park). If Wish Upon sounds like a familiar set up, you’re not wrong.
