Amy Adams Makes First Contact In Full 'Arrival' Trailer [UPDATED]

Because we live in a world where even trailers get their own marketing push, we recently saw a short trailer for the trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming alien invasion drama Arrival. The full trailer is now here to watch, and you should do that at your earliest convenience, like right this moment.

Sure, this strategy is obnoxious, but if it means we get to see more from Arrival, who the fuck cares because this movie looks wonderful. Just the fact that it’s a Denis Villeneuve film is enough to pique my interest after his run of Sicario, Prisoners, and the rest, but the fact that he’s tackling science fiction rocketed this to the peak of my must-watch mountain.

This Arrival trailer features most of what we already saw and builds on top of that foundation. Longer, it cranks up the tension and offers a bit more of the plot. Based on Ted Chiang’s novella Story of Your Life, Amy Adams plays Dr. Louise Banks. A celebrated linguist, when alien crafts show up around the globe, the military enlists her to translate their language and find out what the visitors really want.

Our latest look at Arrival gives a good look at what’s at stake, both for Louise individually and from a big picture point of view. It also offers a glimpse of what the extraterrestrial visitors look like, and wouldn’t you know, they’re not your average alien space invaders.

Arrival is epic and sweeping, but with personal risks to ground the story. And this set up certainly provides Denis Villeneuve with fertile sci-fi soil in which to work. Watching this and seeing the themes and approach he’s using, I can’t help but get excited that he’s taking the reigns for Blade Runner 2. If that has to happen, I’m glad he’s at the controls.

Starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg, and more, Arrival arrives in theaters on November 11.
