It’s the Fourth of July. Happy Birthday, America. And to
celebrate, the world has a little present for all of us, a shiny new trailer
for a 2K restoration of Predator.
John McTiernan’s macho 1987 man-versus-alien actioner may be
one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s quintessential cinematic moments, but it’s also
not the kind of thing you generally think of as getting this treatment.
Elaborate restorations of this ilk tend to be reserved for niche art house fare
from critically revered auteurs, not a muscle-bound sci-fi joint from the guy
who directed Die Hard.
But I couldn’t he happier about this. Predator
is one of my all-time favorites, and this transfer looks incredible, sharp and
crisp and gorgeous. If nothing else, this will be one hell of a way to get
psyched for Shane Black’s (The Nice Guys) impending addition
to the franchise. Let’s hope that lives up to the original, because none of the
other have thus far.
Here’s the rub about this The Predator
re-release. Right now it’s slated to hit theaters on August 17, in France. As
far as the rest of the world goes, who knows? I’m sure it will hit U.S. shores
and elsewhere eventually, but for now, we’ll have to wait. Check out the trailer
below and try not to drool on your keyboard.
