Without a doubt, John Wick was my
favorite movie of 2014. It wasn’t even close. This is the kind of
stripped-down, no frills action I grew up on and that all-too-rarely gets made
these days, especially outside of the DTV realm. It doesn’t hurt that, in the
hands of former stunt coordinators-turned-directors David Leitch and Chad
Stahelski, the fight scenes and gun battles were magnificently staged, shot,
and executed. John Wick: Chapter 2 is in the works, and
while there have only been hints and clues about the story, we now have an
official synopsis.
While this description of John Wick: Chapter 2 from Summit Entertainment isn’t super detailed, and doesn’t veer
far from the expected, it’s enough that it should get fans tingling in all the
right places.
Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.
Yeah, so, he’s thinking he’s back, again. And I for one am
100% on board with this.
Laurence Fishburne recently joined the cast, and said his
character will help to open up the world in John Wick: Chapter
2, which probably means he’s one of these deadly killers. In addition
to Keanu Reeves reprising the title role, we’ll also get to hang out with Ian
McShane, Ruby Rose, Lance Reddick, Peter Stormare, and Common. And probably a
fair number of nameless goons who get head-shot when they get in John Wick’s
way.
John Wick: Chapter 2 hits theaters on
February 10, 2017.
