Here's Your First Look At The 'Batman: The Killing Joke' Animated Movie

Along with Frank Miller’s work on comics like Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns, Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s Batman: The Killing Joke is perhaps the most influential story on the Caped Crusader’s modern iteration—it helped define the character as we currently know him. The 1988 one-off graphic novel is dark and disturbing and the ramifications are still felt today. There has been talk of adapting it before, but an animated version is on the way, and now we have our first look in the form of a teaser and new featurette. Start getting psyched.

Batman: The Killing Joke presents Batman and the Joker as cracked mirror reflections of each other. It dives deep into the psychology of the Clown Prince of Crime, painting him as a broken, tragic character at the same time he attempts to drive Commissioner Gordon insane. It has become one of the most celebrated and revered tales of The Dark Knight, powerful, disturbing, and with a top-flight creative team in place, I have high hopes for the animated adaptation.
