At least for a while, I can’t say much about it, but Jeremy
Saulnier’s follow up to Blue Ruin, Green Room, is awesome. It’s one of my favorite movies that I’ve seen this
year, and there have already been a surprising number of fantastic movies thus
far in 2016. It hits theaters soon, and to mark the occasion, A24 dropped a
vicious new red band trailer for you to take a look at.
This latest look at Green Room isn’t all
that different from what we’ve already seen from the movie, but it gives you
the general gist. A young punk band is on the road, and when they take a
last-minute show, it turns out they’re playing for a bunch of white
supremacists, led by Patrick Stewart like you’ve never seen him before. As if
that’s not bad enough, when they witness a murder they weren’t meant to see,
they find themselves besieged on all sides by pissed off, heavily armed racists
thugs. That’s not going to end well.
This latest trailer captures the brutality of Green Room, what with that broken arm and all, though rest assured, there
is much more nasty business to contend with. It’s essentially a kind of play on
John Carpenter and contained thrillers from the 1980s and ‘70s where the heroes
find themselves trapped in one place and assaulted from all sides.
Green Room again marks Jeremy Saulnier as
an exciting new American indie auteur to keep an eye on. Starring Patrick
Stewart, Anton Yelchin, Alia Shawkat, Imogen Poots, and more, it hits theaters
on April 15, and expands wider on April 22 (that’s when it hits Seattle and
when my review will drop).
