James Wan’s 2013 horror joint, The Conjuring,
didn’t break any new ground, but it was a solid, effective genre outing, one
that was a surprisingly large financial success. It got a rushed prequel with the
less-than-scary Annabelle, but this summer it gets a proper
follow up. Cleverly titled The Conjuring 2, the main trailer
just hit he airwaves. Check it out below.
Again, this trailer doesn’t make it look like The Conjuring 2 will blaze any new trails
or do anything particularly original, but what we see looks creepy and stylized
enough to be worth a look. More than anything, this just proves how much of a
horror freak James Wan is. With the billion-dollar-plus earning
Furious 7 in the rearview, and DC’s
Aquaman on the horizon, he’s proven to be in high demand and
can do whatever the hell he wants. And what he wants is to make moderately
budgeted fright fests. I can certainly roll with that.
Here’s a synopsis:
The Conjuring 2 brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
The Conjuring 2 hits theaters on June 10.
