I’m not the biggest fans of remakes and reboots and
reimaginings in general, especially of movies I love, and John “Die
Hard” McTiernan’s 1987 action classic Predator is
a formative force in my life. But since another one is happening, the fact that
it’s in the capable hands of Shane Black (Iron Man 3,
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and who actually appeared in
Predator) and Fred Dekker (Monster Squad,
Night of the Creeps), is about as comfortable as I’ll get.
The long-in-the-works project just dropped a new poster and a bit of a name
tweak.
Yes, now this is officially titled The
Predator, and though this poster comes from the official Facebook
page, that’s about all we know at this point. Black has said that they won’t be
starting up, to discard all of the already extant mythology, so don’t expect
The Predator to be a true reboot or a remake. At the same
time, he has also said he likes the idea of “inventive sequels,” so I imagine
it will be a kind of soft reboot, one of those that acknowledges the earlier
films, but that goes its own way.
We still don’t know when we’ll see The
Predator, but in the meantime, check out the new poster below.
