Remember when people were speculating that we weren’t going
to see much more new footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens before the movie hits theaters? Yeah, we were very wrong.
Lucasfilm has unleashed what, for this movie anyway, qualifies as a veritable
deluge of new footage, including that awesome Japanese trailer and a new TV
spot that features a bunch of new shots.
The ad comes from Twitter, and though it’s short, it’s every
bit as stirring and awesome as we’ve come to expect, just in a much smaller
package. I know there are people out there cautioning that The Phantom
Menace had great trailers, too, but even if this movie sucks, they’re
doing a fantastic job of marketing, especially to Star Wars
fans.
This spot has a bunch of new bits, including Rey (Daisy
Ridley) flying the Millennium Falcon (and kicking some ass), Han Solo on an icy
planet, and more. It also drives home the legacy aspect of the film—the way
it’s cut, it implies a familiar link between Han and Rey, but that seems to
obvious to put in a TV spot, though there have been reports going around that
Finn (John Boyega) may have a famous last name.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits
theaters on December 18. Check out the spot below.
