A New 'Django' Is On The Way Starring Franco Nero And Written By John Sayles

In 2012, Quentin Tarantino gave the world a crash introduction to Django with his revenge western DjangoUnchained, but the character goes back much further than that. Originally appearing in Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 spaghetti western, Django, the film launched a legendary 100 unofficial sequels—including Unchained. This number is obvious hyperbole, but there are 30-something accounted for, which is a ton of badass westerns. And we’re getting another one, with the original Django, and from an Oscar-nominated filmmaker.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the original Django, Franco Nero, will once again play the role, and that John Sayles has been tapped to write Django Lives!. This should be fucking awesome.

This will be the third time Nero will play the Civil War soldier, and aside from the “Man With No Name” trilogy, Django is the most influential spaghetti western of all time. Sayles was nominated for an Academy Award for writing the western Lone Star, which he also directed—his resume also includes tons of writing, even Piranha, and helming the likes of Eight Men Out, Men With Guns, Matewan, and tons more.

Basically, Django Lives! is going completely rule.
