'The Walk' Movie Review

As a filmmaker, Robert Zemeckis is prone to making movies without a specific distinct antagonist—not all of them, mind you, but quite a few. In the likes of Cast Away, Flight, and Forest Gump, there is no single adversary. Instead, the protagonist must struggle against the state of the world, and in many cases, their quest is to change and shape their surroundings rather than evolve themselves. This is the category the populist director’s latest film, The Walk, falls into, and though the story takes its sweet time to get anywhere, by the time it arrives, the climax is nothing short of breathtaking.

'The Revenant' Has A New Trailer, And Yes, It Still Looks Incredible

While I like Birdman okay—I certainly don’t worship it as a game-changing cinematic revelation like some, nor do I think it is total pretentious garbage like others; the truth, for me anyway, lies somewhere in the middle—I’m 100%, totally and completely on board with director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s next film, the old-timey revenge western The Revenant. And as if I needed another reason to drool over this picture, there’s a brand new trailer out, and yes, it still looks amazing.

Watch This Stunning New 'The Assassin' Trailer

Hou Hsiao-hshien’s The Assassin is one of my most anticipated movies of the year. It won the filmmaker the Best Director award at Cannes, it’s Taiwan’s Oscar entry, and more important than, that, it looks right up my alley. It’s getting near a real release, and to celebrate, you should check out this gorgeous new trailer.

'The Green Inferno' Movie Review

In the annals of exploitation horror, there’s a particularly nasty subgenre tucked way back in the corner and only illuminated by the most iron-stomached aficionados. I’m talking, of course, about cannibals in the jungle, which have, over the years, been some of the most brutal, controversial horror flicks ever committed to celluloid. Now imagine someone made a Scary Movie style spoof of films like Ruggero Deodato’s Cannibal Holocaust or Umberto Lenzi’s 1981 Cannibal Ferox, and that’s not far off from what you get with director Eli Roth’s latest endeavor, The Green Inferno.

'Primer' Director Shane Carruth To Direct A Big-Budget Action Movie, What The Hell Does That Mean?

What the what? I love Shane Carruth; I absolutely adored the former software engineer’s (a profession that makes total sense when you look at his body of work) first two films, the esoteric sci-fi offerings Primer and Upstream Color. Thus far in his career he’s made tiny, microbudget films that take years to come together and that you have to actively seek out if you want to see. But all that is about to change.

'Hobo With A Shotgun' Director Will Go Underwater For His Next Horror Thriller

If you’ve been patiently waiting for Jason Eisener to follow up his bonkers feature debut Hobo With A Shotgun (he’s contributed to a number of anthology films in the interim), it sounds like he’s got a doozy in store for you.

'Black Mass' Movie Review

Anchored by a number of fantastic performances—and just as many squandered actors—Scott Cooper’s gangster saga BlackMass is by turns a compelling crime drama and a standard, by-the-book biopic. For all the positive elements, the picture is ultimately held back by the constraints of the form it takes.

'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' Movie Review

At the tail end of last summer, director Wes Ball dropped yet another adaptation of yet another dystopian young adult novel into our laps with The Maze Runner, and, much to the surprise of many, it was a blast. Not as good as The Hunger Games movies by a good margin, it is a damn sight better than the Divergent films. Made on the cheap, it was also a highly profitably endeavor, and now the sequel, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, is here in the same slot to continue the saga of a bunch of amnesiac teenage boys.

'In The Heart Of The Sea' Trailer: Watch Thor Fight A Giant Whale

It’s difficult to find an opponent worthy of battling Thor, he is, after all, a god. But a giant whale may just do the trick, and that’s what you get in the first trailer for Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea.

This 'Deathgasm' Poster Is The Most Metal Thing You've Ever Seen

I could talk all day about how fucking great the New Zealand heavy metal horror flick Deathgasm is, and in fact I have shouted my love for this film from every mountain top I can climb. (Cards on the table, I’m in bad shape, so any real mountains I climbe are not particularly tall or numerous, but metaphorically, there are many.) If you want to know my thoughts, read my review here. With a theatrical release on the horizon, there is a new poster making the rounds that perfectly encapsulates what the film is all about. Take a look below.

'Trollhunter' Director To Helm Awesome Sci-Fi Project 'Emergence'

Well here’s the best news I’ve heard all day: Trollhunter director Andre Ovredal is taking the helm on an incredible sounding sci-fi thriller named Emergence. If you don’t love everything about that, there’s a good chance we’re not friends.

'Yakuza Apocalypse': Watch The Insane New Trailer For Takashi Miike's Vampire Gangster Opus

Blu-Ray/DVD Review: 'Thrashin'

Along with a handful of movies that includes Rad, Top Gun, and Red Dawn, David Winters’ 1986 skateboarding action drama Thrashin’ had a formative impact on my youth and my subsequent adult life, probably to a degree that isn’t entirely healthy. And if you’ve missed out on owning a copy of your very own over the years, and you like to watch a young Josh Brolin shredding the streets of Los Angeles, Olive Films just released a new DVD and Blu-ray version of the film for your convenience.

This 'Macbeth' Trailer Is Violent, Dreamy, And Gorgeous

Admittedly, I’m a bit late to this party (sue me, it’s been a busy week), but this trailer for Justin Kurzel’s (The Snowtown Murders) Macbeth is nothing short of breathtaking. Violent and dreamy and gorgeous, you need to see it for yourself.

'Deathgasm' Trailer: Heavy Metal, Demons, And Mayhem

When your movie is called Deathgasm, you’re damn right I’m going to watch it as soon as humanly possible. It doesn’t hurt that the New Zealand heavy metal horror flick is fucking incredible. It’s easily one of my favorite movies of the year, and as it’s getting a release this fall, they dropped another awesome new trailer. Check it out.

'Daredevil' Season 2: Check Out The Punisher's Arsenal

We all know that the Punisher has a sweet arsenal to use when it comes to dispensing his particularly brutal form of vigilante justice. We also know that the Punisher is going to appear in Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix. And just to tease what we’re going to get, Jon Bernthal, who plays Frank Castle, gave us a glimpse of what to expect. It’s enough to make fans of the comics pee themselves a little.

Laurence Fishburne Goes Kill Crazy In This 'Standoff' Trailer

Who knows if Standoff is going to be great cinema (it won’t), but Laurence Fishburne on a kill crazy rampage at a funeral? Sign me up. And this trailer is definitely right up my alley. Check it out below.
