In case you’re one of the people who, for some unfathomable
reason, missed it in the theaters, Mad Max: Fury Road, the
best action movie of the year, is hitting the home video market. It’s already
available via digital download, and Blu-ray on September 1. One of the features
is a trio of deleted scenes, and now you can watch them below. Enjoy.
Watching these scenes, it makes sense why they were excised
from the final cut of the film; it’s already two-hours-long, and these are
tertiary things that could have caused pacing issues. Still, they’re
interesting to check out and give you a glimpse of the larger world of the
film.
There will obviously be some spoilers if you haven’t seen
Fury Road yet.
The first scene shows Max (Tom Hardy), Furiosa (Charlize
Theron), and the rest beginning their journey back towards
Citadel. While it’s tense and captures their apprehension, by this point you
already know what they’re up against, what’s waiting for them out in the
wastes, so, while it’s a solid moment, it’s redundant and slows the breakneck
speed.
The second clip digs into the world of Fury
Road and illustrates how the normal rank and file live. It’s a brutal
moment in a number of ways, but you already know how fucked up things are, and
as none of the key players are involved, it’s more of an unnecessary thread
than anything.
In the final deleted scene, you see the god-like reverence
that the War Boys give to the warlord Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). They
look at him as an object of worship. While that’s already present in the
theatrical cut of Fury Road, here you get a bit of an
outsider’s perspective, as one of the folks from the surrounding locations
looks at this devotion with a hint of disdain.
None of this really matters; what’s truly important is that
you can own Mad Max: Fury Road right now, or, if you’re like
me, you’ll own it when it hits physical media in a couple weeks. Check out the
deleted scenes below.
