Watch 'The Knick' Season 2 Trailer, It Has Old-Timey Surgery And Quarantines

If you haven’t been watching The Knick on Cinemax—I know, who has Cinemax?—you should find a way to do so immediately. It’s easily one of the best new shows of last season, and though we’re still a few months off, there’s an ominous new teaser trailer for season 2. Check it out below.

As he directed every episode (he’s retired from making movies, not making awesome stuff), The Knick is like watching a really long Steven Soderbergh movie, one that features brutally graphic old-timey surgery. The action follows Dr. John Thackery (Clive Owen doing what may be his best work), a renowned early 20th century surgeon at the Knickerbocker Hospital in New York. He’s also a crazy egotistical junkie.

Not only does The Knick deal with the state of medicine and surgery at the time, the story involves racial and gender politics, hints of epidemiology, and much more (rat fighting). From the look of this, season 2 opens the world up even further, as San Francisco is in play, there are extensive quarantine measures put in place. And as Thack was in some dire circumstances at the end of season 1, there’s going to be a lot to contend with moving forward. Hell, the only thing I don’t love about this show is the weird, out of place electronic score, but after the first episode, they rein that in so it’s not as much of a distraction.

Don’t worry if you’re not caught up, The Knick is also hitting HBO Go, HBO On Demand, and their new streaming service this month, so you can watch the inaugural session at your leisure before season 2 starts on October 16. Watch the new teaser below.
