We’ve been hearing about it since it caused a stir at
Sundance, but Rick Famuyiwa’s Dope finally hits theaters
next week. To mark the occasion, there’s a fresh new red band trailer to gawk
at. Check it out after the jump.
The story revolves around the troubles of a trio of geeks
trying to navigate the tricky waters of high school. They play in a puck band,
are obsessed with ‘90s hip hop, and have big dreams. Adding to their struggles,
however, is the fact that they live in The Bottoms, a rough inner city
neighborhood where they stand out even more and have to dodge gangsters. Things
are cranked up even further when they wind up with a backpack full of drugs
they have to unload, or else.
Starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey
Clemons, Kimberly Elise,Chanel Iman, Keith Stanfield, Quincy
Brown, Blake Anderson, Zoƫ Kravitz, and A$AP Rocky, Dope
has garnered near universal praise and looks like a total blast. It’s one of
our most anticipated movies of the summer, and opens in theaters June 19. Until
then, take a look at some new TV spots, clips, and character posters.
