There are times when a documentary can be far more
terrifying than any fictional film, and the upcoming The
Nightmare looks to be one of them. I’m stoked the film is landing at
the Seattle International Film Festival next month, and now a trailer is here
for you to check out.
From director Rodney Ascher (The Shinning
documentary Room 237), The Nightmare
chronicles people who suffer from sleep paralysis, which sees them trapped,
unable to move, in a state somewhere between sleep and wakefulness. On its own,
that’s terrifying enough, but add to that people who are trapped in what are essentially
waking nightmares. Ascher’s latest dives into this world, and the results are
truly harrowing.
The Nightmare is currently making the festival
rounds, and gets a VOD and limited release on June 5.
