There Are Only Dark Corners In This 'Daredevil' Trailer

Okay, I’m in. Daredevil is my all time favorite comic, and after the debacle of the Ben Affleck version, I’ve been skeptical about Marvel’s upcoming series on Netflix. Over time, however, I’ve allowed myself to become cautiously optimistic, and after this new trailer, our longest, most in-depth look yet, I’m officially excited.

Sure, Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) is still running around Hell’s Kitchen in black pajamas instead of his trademark red suit, but the look and feel capture the dark, gritty tone of the comics. The overall aesthetic and street level story also looks to provide a nice counterbalance to the bigger, broader tendencies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as much as I like those films, it’ll be nice to have something on the other end. This might be the darkest thing Marvel has ever done. You have to love the little nod to Thor and Iron Man at the end, just to let you know that’s out there.

One of the characters I’ve been most worried about is WilsonFisk/Kingpin, but after seeing Vincent D’Onofrio here, that’s not as much of a concern anymore. I had hopes for D’Onofrio, he’s an actor whose work I admire, and that calm, sinister, scary as hell delivery is damn near exactly what you want out of the character. You also get glimpses at supporting players like Karen Page (Amy Woll), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), and Stick (Scott Glenn, who is the perfect choice to play the grizzled old mentor).

All 13 episodes of Daredevil drop on Netflix on April 10, so if I’m not around for a few days, you know where I am.
