'The Connection' Red Band Trailer Makes The Drop

William Friedkin’s The French Connection is one of the greatest American action movies of the 1970s, or any era for that matter. That iconic car chase changed the genre forever. New French crime thriller, The Connection, uses the same true-life situation as a base, showing the story from the other side of the Atlantic, and as you can see in this new red band trailer and poster, it captures a similar grim, gritty aesthetic and feel as its predecessor.

Shot on 35mm, Cédric Jimenez's film feels like an artifact from a bygone era. This is a sprawling crime saga full of tough dudes being tough. How can you not love that last piece where the hero and villain face off, taking turns lobbing grizzled, ominous quips at each other.

Drafthouse Films will distribute the The Connection, and here’s what they have to say about it:

A stylish, 70's-period crime thriller inspired by true events, The Connection tells the story of real-life Marseilles magistrate Pierre Michel (Academy Award® Winner Jean Dujardin, The ArtistThe Wolf Of Wall Street) and his relentless crusade to dismantle the most notorious drug smuggling operation in history: the French Connection.
In his crosshairs is charismatic and wealthy kingpin, Gatean “Tany” Zampa (Gilles Lellouche, Point BlankMesrine: Killer Instinct), who runs the largest underground heroin trade into the States. Though the fearless and tenacious Michel, aided by a task force of elite cops, will stop at nothing––including boldly orchestrated drug raids, devastating arrests, and exacting interrogations––to ensure the crime ring's demise, Zampa's "La French" always seems one step ahead.
As La French mounts its retaliation, Michel will be forced to make the most difficult decision of his life: to continue waging his war, or ensure his family's safety, before it's too late.

The Connection hits theaters May 15 in a limited release, and we can’t wait. Check out the badass trailer and poster below
