It may not be breaking any new ground, but from what we’ve
seen so far from Run All Night, it looks right up my alley.
Revenge, grizzled old tough guys going head to head, characters who just have
to survive through this one night and everything will be
okay—it’s not horribly original, but there’s nothing I don’t like here. Adding
Ed Harris and Liam Neeson to the mix only sweetens the deal. Check out this new
French trailer to see what I’m talking about.
The plot is straightforward: one aging gangster’s son tries
to kill another aging gangster’s son, aging gangster number two steps in and
kills aging gangster number one’s son, and aging gangster number one goes after
aging gangster number two, his son, his son’s family, and everyone he’s ever
cared about. Fathers are like that. There’s obviously more to it, and the two
fathers has a long history together, but I’m already biting at this hook.
There’s just something gritty and grim to Run All
Night that hits that perfect vibe I’m looking for in this kind of
movie. You’re sure to get tough guys saying and doing tough things, an angry
papa bear protecting his cub, and Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) and
Common (Selma) should prove to be nice additions to the
melee.
Run All Night opens wide on March 13, check
out the trailer below.
