Netflix's Full 'Daredevil' Trailer Is Dark And Grim, Check It Out Here

Marvel is all about brand expansion, and with their upcoming Netflix adaptation of Daredevil it certainly appears that they’re taking a different path than usual. The look and feel of this new trailer, our first real look at the show, has, at least on the surface, more in common with Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy than your average MCU offering, especially the episodic TV side of things, like Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. I like both of those shows well enough, but this appears to be something else.

There’s a fair amount to see in these 90 seconds, but also a lot that isn’t shown. They introduce blind lawyer Matt Murdock’s (Charlie Cox) faith, you get a glimpse at what may the way he sees the world (I hope it’s not), and see a black-clad figure standing on rooftops, using his highly honed senses to root out crime in his Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. You even get a quick glimpse of Scott Glenn’s Stick, Matt’s mentor, and an even quicker one of his partner and BFF Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), but that’s about all. The Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) is nowhere to be seen, and we’ve still haven’t seen Daredevil in his traditional red suit.

I know this is an origin story, and he doesn’t go that route right away, but I know I’m not the only one who is worried that we won’t get to the point where he fully becomes Daredevil until near the end of the 13-episode run. To go that many and still not get there seems like a bit much, so hopefully they’re either just keeping it under wraps for a big reveal, or they’re just focusing on beginning. This does all look like it comes from early on in the series, so there’s that.

This is dark, grim, and gritty, and while I’m still not 100% sold on Daredevil just yet, I’m starting to get there. The entire run of Daredevil drops April 10.
