Losing a pet is traumatic. For those of us who will never
have kids, it’s as close to losing a child as we’ll ever get. It sent John Wick
on kill-crazy rampage in the movie of the same name. But, like for all of us,
the time comes to move on, and in the first image John Wick: Chapter Two, it looks like the former-assassin-turned-unretired-dog-avenger
has done just that.
Though it appears to be little more than a photo of a man
and his adorable pit bull (love me some blocky-headed dogs) taking a leisurely
stroll across a bridge on a sunny afternoon, there’s more going on than that.
Though Keanu Reeves’ hitman extraordinaire isn’t too jacked up—I don’t any visible
blood or bullet holes—he’s got a layer of grime going on and has obviously been
through some shit quite recently. What that is remains to be seen, but
considering the previous outing was one of the best down and dirty actioners in
recent memory, odds are he didn’t get dirty tumbling down down a hill while his
pup chased a rogue squirrel. We’ll just have to wait and see what we’ll see,
though my guess is it involves violence.
All I can say is that John Wick: Chapter Two
better not kill this dog, too. As much as I adore John Wick
(it’s one of my top 25 Movies of the 21st Century So Far), once was enough. I
don’t know if I can hang if this becomes the “dog killing franchise.”
We haven’t seen any footage from John Wick: Chapter Two yet, but Lionsgate has a panel New York Comic Con, which starts
next week. They plan to unveil a glimpse there, and it will likely trickle
online shortly thereafter. You know I’m keeping my eyes peeled for that.
In the meantime, here’s a quick synopsis:
Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.
Keanu Reeves obviously returns in the title role, and
familiar faces like John Leguizamo, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane also return.
And they’re bringing along a slew of new friends as well, including Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Peter Stormare, Common, and Ricardo Scamarcio. As Chad
Stahelski is back to direct (David Leitch, the other half of the directing duo from
John Wick, moved on to helm the Cold War thriller
The Coldest City), you just know he’s also got a who’s who
of badass stunt performers on the call sheet.
John Wick: Chapter Two hits theaters
February 10, 2017, which, if you’re keeping track, isn’t too far away.
