Movie Review: 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

I’m not going to write a real Star Wars: The Force Awakens review. Everyone else already has, with the amount of money it’s already made you’ve probably already seen it multiple times, and I have far too many feelings to adequately put into words. So, I’ll keep this brief.

Go see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s as simple as that. You were going to anyway, but do it. Now. And with haste.

I’ve written about this movie in one form or another nearly every day since it was announced, and now that it’s finally here, taking over the damn world, it is wonderful. Not perfect by far—there are some huge script flaws, among other issues, though they’re easy to get past—but director J.J. Abrams and company did something the prequels failed to do: they made a Star Wars movie that feels like a Star Wars movie.

There’s high adventure, swashbuckling action, and legitimate emotional investment; multiple moments gave me goosebumps or moved me nearly to tears; and I haven’t had more feelings or a more physical, gut-level reaction to watching any movie in years. [Grade: A]
