At UFC 184 last weekend, Ronda Rousey demonstrated again that she’s easily the best women’s MMA fighter in the world by defeating clear-cut number one contender Cat Zingano in 14 seconds. 14 seconds. Hell, she’s the most dominant champ in the sport in any division, male or female. She’s also following in the footsteps of Gina Carano and kicking a lot of ass on the big screen as well. Last summer she showed up in Expendables 3, next months joins Vin Diesel and company in Furious 7, and we just heard a report that she’s teaming up with Iko Uwais, one of the baddest and most underrated action stars in the world.
According to Variety, Rousey is joining the star of
The Raid and The Raid 2 in a movie called
Mile 22. The story revolves around a CIA officer who has to
team up with an Indonesian cop to take on “violent and extreme political corruption.”
If you think about it real hard, you can probably figure out which one is going
to play which role.
Peter Berg, you know, the guy who directed
Battleship and Lone Survivor, is on board
to produce. You can make of that what you will. That does, however, indicate
that this is going to be something much bigger than the low-budget, DTV style
actioner that it sounded like initially. I hope it doesn’t stray too far from
that, however.
